Abstract:

FacilitiesSchools_PTSCHOOL is designed to provide point locations of every Vermont School along with the established school ID (PSID) for geographic analysis of school statistical data. In 1997 Vermont's Regional Planning Commisions digitized the locations of the schools in their region using orthophotos, existing GIS data, and road maps. Maps of school locations were sent to each School Supervisory Union for verification of school location and name. The point covers created by the RPCs were appended to one cover by VCGI. In 2003 the data layer was revised by VCGI using an updated list of schools from the VT Department of Education. In 2004 VT Department of Education updated and validated the locations of the schools.

Completeness_Report:

The initial data point digitized in 1997 were evaluated using test plots of school locations for each school district were sent to school Supervisory Unions for verification of location accuracy and school name.
The data layer was revised by VCGI in 2003. Updates were made by a GIS Technician (Ryan Ochs). 1. Compared with the state list.(matched on psid) 2. Pulled all the non-matching, tech schools, and post-secondaryinstitutions.(created a y/n match field) 3. Manually checked the non matching schools to see what may haveinadvertently been pulled out. Done by checking state sites, emailing, etc. 4. Merged the tech schools and colleges back in to the layer. 5. Checked the college and tech schools to verify existence. Removed the non-existing ones. 6. Merged with county and tbhash to get correct county names. Also added fips6 field.
