Completeness_Report:

50-foot contour lines were generated from 7.5 minute USGS NED data with the ARC/INFO TIN module. The ArcInfo workstation LATTICECONTOUR command was used. The ElevationDEM_DEM24 GRID (lattice) was used as the input grid/lattice. The process created a statewide 50 foot contour coverage. The latticecontour command was preferred for efficiency, but may produce some contours with "stair-stepping" (particularly in flat areas). The TINCONTOUR command (with subdivided triangles) might have produced slightly more pleasing contours, but was too compute intensive when using all DEM points. BoundaryTile_QUAD16 tiled versions we created for download by clipping the statewide ElevationContours_CN50T coverage.

No formal assessment has been made of the accuracy of contour lines interpolated from 7.5 minute NED data in Vermont. Limited experience has shown that the generated contours compare well with USGS 7.5 minute topographic maps in areas of steep topography. In relatively flat areas, however, interpolated contours may differ from 7.5 minute topographic map contours by as much as a couple of inches at RF 24,000 scale (2000 feet on the ground). The USGS topographic maps are stated to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. Data users may want to compare the contour data for their area with topographic maps to assess the data's usefulness for any particular purpose.
