Description: The "VGIS_BaseMap" (VT GIS Basemap) product allows users to get a GIS basemap of Vermont without actually downloading any data (including 1 meter color imagery!!!). Its a Web Map Service (WMS) which can be viewed using one of the following products:
Software Requirements (one of the following)
Files:
- VGIS_Basemap.pmf = ESRI ArcPublisher 9.1+ file, which can be read using ArcReader 9.1+.
- VGIS_Basemap.axl = ESRI ArcExplorer 9.x Java Edition file, which can be read using ArcReader 9.x Java Edition
- VGIS_Basemap.gsf = Gaia 2.0.1+ session file.

Internet Connection:
You must have an Internet connection to use the VGIS_BaseMap web map service. A DSL, cable, or other high bandwidth connection is the best option.
Procedures:
- Install one of the products listed above (if you haven't already).
- Load the appropriate file depending on which software package you're using.
- Note: VCGI no longer distributes a ArcMap Layer File (*.lyr) with this product because there is a bug.
Use the following procedures to add the VGIS_Basemap service in ArcMap.
- Startup ArcMap 9.x
- Click the "Add Data" button.
- Double click on the "GIS Servers" icon in your catalog, then double click "Add ArcIMS Server".
- URL = http://maps.vcgi.org
- Click "Get List". Put a check mark next to "VGIS_BASEMAP" and click Ok.
- You should see "maps.vcgi.org" under the list of GIS Servers. Double click it and select "VGIS_BASEMAP"
- That should do it.
