This project will develop hydrographic category attributes (intermittent vs. perennial) for the Vermont Hydrography Dataset (VHD) data based on hydrology. VCGI will employ GIS technology to determine approximately 700 observation points that provide representative geographic, climatic, geologic, physiographic and hydrologic coverage of the State of Vermont. VCGI has delineated catchment boundaries for these points and derived basin characteristics for each (detailed in attachment 1) and forwarded to USGS New Hampshire - Vermont District office for use in their pending field efforts and development of the logistical regression equation for estimating the hydrographic category of small watersheds in Vermont. The field effort component of this project, requiring suitable weather conditions for the field effort during normal "low flow" conditions, was successful for August/September 2005. Field results aided in validating the equation that is currently being implemented statewide. Data will be available upon completion, estimated to be late fall of 2006. A USGS Water Resources Investigative (WRI) report titled "A Logistic Regression Equation for Estimating the Probability of a Stream in Vermont Having Intermittent Flow" detailing the methods used to produce the equation is now available.
