The State of Vermont Enhanced 9-1-1 Board has implemented enhanced 9-1-1 dispatch services for
the entire state. The E9-1-1 Board hired microDATA (St. Johnsbury, VT) to develop a "Master Street
Address Guide" (MSAG) and other associated geographic data layers (GIS data). Historically, most
residents in Vermont had rural-route boxes (ex: RR 1 Box 328). This addressing system works well
for local mail delivery, but does not provide an "emergency provider" with information about the
location of an incedent. As a result, the E9-1-1 Board's initiative assisted towns in the development
of "locatable" addresses. This included assigning roads "official" road names and then assigning
new addresses to existing sites (residences).
VCGI has assisted the Enhanced 9-1-1 Board in several ways. Technical assistance in the development
of RFPs, development of E9-1-1 standards, and quality control of data delivered by contractors. The
data developed by the E9-1-1 project is available to the public through VCGI. However, VCGI will
not retain or distribute confidential information.
VCGI will continue to assist the E9-1-1 Board in the development of long-term data maintenance
strategies and policies.
